Description: Every year in Switzerland from 0.4 to 1% of the population suffers from cardiovascular arrest; we are speaking of up to 8,000 people per year.
Besides chest compression and ventilation, defibrillation is one of the cornerstones of a successful resuscitation. AED devices are of public access and can be used not only by professionals.
In fact, in 2005 only 5% of patients, who had a cardiac arrest, survived across Switzerland.
The geographical distribution of the population and also the bases of the emergency services are very different. Vital for the survival is the rapid alert to the professional emergency services and the immediate start of resuscitation without interruption.
In order to deal with cardiac arrest and to reach as quickly as possible the person, voluntary groups have been recruited and trained by the regional emergency services and are alarmed by the Medical Emergency Call Centre 144 Bern as soon as an event occurs.
With this application voluntary lay rescuers will be alerted in the region of emergency in few seconds. This can shorten the treatment between the free service and the arriving of the emergency services. With this application many First Responders can be alerted more quickly and in a shorter time.
